Your Super Power

This morning I watched a Spider-man movie with my son. The excitement he displays whenever Spider-man utilizes his super-human powers is mesmerizing. It reminded me of, well me, when I was a young boy. I would always clip a towel around my neck and pretend that I could fly. I would save my younger siblings from free-falling to their death or save them from the evil enemy that we would create. The idea of having and using my power was tantalizing. Then we grow up. The reality of the real world hits us. The reality of life sinks in. We realize that we will never have superpowers, but my question to you is, "What if you do?". I'm not talking about flying, lasers coming out of your eyes, or lightning speed. I'm talking about controlling your emotions, doing things you don't want to do, seeing your brain trying to sabotage your day, and generating more energy. I'm sure you're probably like, "What are you talking about?" Well, my superhuman power is the ability to do things that I don't want to do. That doesn't sound like a power, however, when your nemesis is Dr. Resistance, you have to be able to generate power from within to defend yourself. Dr. Resistance starts early, he pummels me early, really early. As soon as my alarm goes off, Dr. Resistance hits me with Negativity. He says, "Trey, you don't need to run." He says, "The bed feels sooooo good right now." He says, "It's really cold out, Trey, it might be warmer tomorrow." He asks, " Why are even doing this?" My answer is "Because you don't want me to."

Your nemesis may be something or someone else. Do you allow your emotions to pummel you? Do you allow your brain to talk shit to you? Are you in a toxic relationship? Are you being bullied? Is your health kicking your ass? I'm telling you, we have superpowers, we just don't think of them as "super". Your power may be realizing that you are not your thoughts, or being able to look at your emotions in realtime, or keeping a positive mindset, or not indulging in destructive behaviors, or generating positive chemicals in the body through exercise, or like me, doing things that are good for you, even when you don't want to. There is a catch though. You have to put in work to build up your powers. You have to read books about your nemesis, and how to defeat them. You have to strengthen your mind, body, and spirit. You have to put in the work. To be honest, I don't want to be writing this right now. Dr. Resistance is saying, " Who are you, Trey, to be writing this?" He is beating the shit out of me right now, lucky for me, I crushed my morning routine. I have the energy right now to put in the work, I have the energy to say screw it, this helps my creative being. I challenge you to put in the work. I challenge you to keep getting stronger. We are human, but we can make ourselves stronger. We can increase our emotional intelligence. We can analyze our emotions in realtime. We can be the middle line between the yin and yang. We can control our situations. We can make smarter decisions. We can be more aware of the present moment. Build your superpower, do the work.
